I guess it is unavoidable. With the progress of technology, more often than not you want a lot of references to come up with one decision.
Adding democracy in the family decision tree, it takes more effort and consideration to get a unified voice.
In the end, someone will need to step up, put his/her foot down, and call the shot.

“I want to go to the zoo”, the boy argued
“I want to go home and surf the net; this bloody 3G is just too slow”, the father talked to himself
