Capturing the mundane to create interesting stories

Year 2014 in Pictures

Just like 2013, 2012, 2011, I compile my favorite photos for Year 2014 in a single post. Open the post to see them!

2014 hasn’t been that exciting year for me, photography-wise, but still it was interesting.

Due to my other commitments this year, I have to put my photography hobby second. I didn’t go out as much as I want, nor looking for inspirations as plenty as I should. The good news is that I traveled (business and personal) more than I could wish for this year, so I capture more variations; looking forward for more.

This year, all photos were taken with Ricoh GR, similar to 2013 with only Ricoh GRD III. I love both cameras, although the GRD III seems to be nearing the end of its life (spoiled screen, stuck “OK” button, etc) after I lend it to a friend for his 6-months travel around Asia.

Cut to the chase, below is showcase of my favorite photos of year 2014 — not in particular order, and not on monthly-basis.

No Title 039 — my first post taken with Ricoh GR (original post)

Light Stairs — also special because it was taken during a good friend’s wedding (original post)

Flying Horses — this was 2014 Chinese New Year. I wonder what they’ll put for 2015 (original post)

Balloon #08 — The one that got away. This shows how fast Ricoh GR is; pull out from pocket, switch on, set exposure, snap-focus, click. All in just a couple of seconds. I wish my feet was faster to get me a better angle (original post)

Street of Brunei #02: Traditional Market — taken during company-funded travel… I mean, business trip :-) (original post)

Street of Brunei #04: Kampong Ayer — another take on how (sometime) we can mix business with pleasure (original post)

Yellow #08: Wall — A hidden gem in Singapore, I should say. It shows that there are plenty of interesting places in Singapore that I haven’t explore (original post)

Street of Kathmandu #01: Pepsi — I really love this trip, and love my wife for making the trip. I wouldn’t made it there without her. (original post)

Street of Kathmandu #03: Red — I love the colors of Nepal. The red bricks are lovely. (original post)

Street of Kathmandu #04: Beautify — and I love how I feel safe walking around Kathmandu’s neighborhood (original post)

Penang: George Town Blue Sky — I love the architecture of old George Town. It’s how I imagine cities in western Europe would be (original post)

Balloon #07: Beach — back to Singapore; it’s a different color (original post)

2014 has been good to me. Photography-wise, it may not be the best… the best is yet to come; but 2014 has been great in my other aspects of life. I got promoted in June 2014, and I finally (finally! Yeah!) submitted my thesis just a couple of weeks ago. I have completed my part, the rest is to wait for result.

Life is good.

I am looking forward to 2015 with great optimism — with a more positive and productive mindset; I hope I can accomplish more next year, including in photography.

Other than that, the hope is always the same: I hope I can travel to more places, see more things, capture them in camera, and share them with you here.

Thank you very much for your visits, likes and comments in 2014. I hope you enjoyed the year as much as I am. I’m looking forward to see you again here next year.

We wish you Happy New Year 2015.
