Street of Brunei #03: Water Taxi

Not exactly on the street of Brunei, but you can consider the river as street here :-)

Yes, water taxi is one of the main public transportation in Bandar Seri Begawan. If you notice, the city is located on the bank of Brunei River. It is a self-proclaimed Venice of South East Asia.

Also used to transport goods to the market

The taxi, locally called penambang, cost about 50 cents to 1 dollar per person, per trip — depending on the distance.

To alight, hop-off from the bow…

To board, hop-on also from bow…

You can also book it for a tour around Kampong Ayer (Village on water). I think it would cost about 20-25 dollar for 30-45 minutes tour.

I, a stingy person that I am, paid regular price (50 cents) to take us to Kampong Ayer — and explore the area on foot :D… more photos of the kampong on the next post

As teaser, photo of the selfie colleague on our way to Kampong Ayer.
