Miri, Malaysia (MYY)
Glimpse of Miri, Malaysia
Miri, one of the important cities for Petroleum industry in Malaysia — home of “Grand Old Lady”, the first oil well in Malaysia.
Went there for a short meeting, so didn’t have much time to explore the city — well at least there was enough time to explore the airport :-)
I only had time to walk around during dinner time… but most of the shops are closed at 6pm. Not much to see around the neighborhood.
The next day, after meeting is done, we made a quick stop on the way to airport. We stopped at a “gift shop” for funny looking sweet cake called Kueh Lapis (lit: layered cake)
Time to depart back to Singapore. Perhaps someday I can come back and explore more.
There was no direct flight from Miri to Singapore. Thus, I have to make a transit at Kuala Lumpur.
Interestingly enough, although it is considered as domestic flight, but all passengers must go through immigration check and process.
I ask a Malaysian passenger sitting next to me. She said that passengers flying crossing the sea, from East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak) to Peninsular Malaysia (or the other way around) must go through immigration. If you are flying only in Peninsular or East Malaysia, you don’t have to.
It doesn’t happen in Indonesia — while we have more islands to cover.
I find it interesting, and strange, that they have separate immigration control.
