Seniority
“No, this isn’t hazing. I’m telling you, this is because I’m your senpai. Kouhai runs, senpai on bicycle”
Side Story:
Senpai is the Japanese term for senior. Kouhai is junior. Senpai-kouhai relationship in Japan is very strong. Once you are a senpai/kouhai, you are bounded to that status forever.
The status is not based on age. It is based on when you entered the institution, e.g. school or a workplace.
The senior will gain respect. The junior will gain guidance.
And, of course, every kouhai will get another kouhai… but seldom senpai gets another senpai :D

There’s an extra saddle on the back! That bicycle guy is so mean…

Hahaha… well, am not trying to defend the senpai, but in Japan, bicycle is only for one person… except for children (maximum of two, three with the rider), and they have to be on special seat.
