Women Only Train Car

S-Women-only-002DSC 2356-martosc

Well, I don’t belong here…

During rush-hour, train can be so packed. Some people would take the advantage of this situation to grope. This train car is only one effort to minimize it — part of the anti-groping campaign.

By the way, did you notice that I say “some people” instead of “some men”? Well, because (surprisingly) women also grope (men) — the Japanese terms is “Chikan” for men and “Chijo” for women. However, I don’t see “men only” train car here… and, what about women who grope other women?

Not all people agree with this “Women-only” train car. Quoting from this article:

“This system is discriminating against men,” he said. “We pay the same fare and yet are labeled as evil persons. Not all men are gropers. This is insulting.”

I think he has a solid point.

    • I personally don’t think this is a solution; it might be a temporary solution, but it’s not eliminating the root-cause. It will only temporarily prevent the “chikan” or “chijo” from doing what they like; it doesn’t stop the desire to grope; it doesn’t identify and punish the guilty. And it brings discrimination against the innocents :D…
