Side story:

I learned something in regards to camera limitation that night.

Most of the time, I tried to freeze the moment — not very successful when it’s dark. I tried with the best settings I can get from the camera, but ended up with neither freeze up moments nor fluid movement — they were half-baked.

I’m thinking of looking it the other way now, and come up with a new motto:

“If you can’t freeze the moment, emphasize the movement.”

The outdoor event plaza…

Remember this post? Last week I came back to Osanbashi, which is an International Passenger Terminal for sea travels.

I went up to the rooftop plaza, and the place just get weirder… but interesting at the same time.

Side Story:

I went to CP+ last Saturday. I’ve been wanting to see and feel Fujifilm X-Pro1

But, what do you know, the waiting line was 45 minutes…

So, I changed the plan. Let’s check Nikon D4 and D800.

Oops, 90 minutes…

Conclusion: using only these particular data, Nikon D4 and D800 are more popular than Fujifilm X-Pro1.

Let’s just wait a couple of months and check them at the store.

Speaking about bullies, I remember that I often got bullied when I was a kid. Having a cleft lip gives many reasons for bigger kids to mock.

And kids can be very mean.

But I survived that.

I think I grew up fine — until one day, one of my juniors at work told me that I was a bully at work.

I have become the person that I don’t want to be.

I certainly didn’t realize that

And I have to change.

I was suppose to meet #Q at the station the other day. I was a little early and she was a little late, so I have some free time.

I can get bored very easily. Played a bit with my phone, but then I lost the interest after awhile.

It is a good thing that I (almost) always bring my camera. Now is a good time to play with slow shutter speed again.

First thing I did was to find an ‘anchor’, static object or people, that is surrounded by movement.

Second, read/meter the scene, and input the settings to your liking. For my personal taste, 1/20″ is quite nice. Reasons I don’t like it slower are: 1) it’s hard for me to avoid camera shake, 2) the motion is going to be too ‘blurry’.

To avoid camera shake, there are a couple of things that can be done: 1) you might want to sit or rest yourself onto something, 2) Use your left eye to compose. Why? Read Joe McNally’s “Da Grip” … :D

Third and last… shoot away… don’t forget to try different settings.

These shots are probably not that interesting, but I hope you’ll get the idea.

Side story:

It took me awhile (I’m not that smart), but now I understand another ‘meaning’ of normal/standard lens.

A 50mm lens would have the same ‘magnification’ as human eyes. It has the same perspective and lens compression — note: not to be confused with angle/field of view; For angle of view, 28mm lens (on APS-C camera) would be more ‘accurately’ represents human eyes.

It’s a revelation for me. Now, it’s easier for me to imagine a composition/framing with 50mm without lifting the camera to my eye. So, expect to see some more shots from 50mm next week, because I’m trying to practice this ‘new’ knowledge.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. 24mm is still my favorite focal length for my D90 :D.
